Iori by Horii Shichimeien - Incense - Horii Shichimeien

Created in collaboration with Shoyeido, this fragrance reflects the character of Horii Shichimeien. It carries the depth of Uji tea with a calm, steady presence. The scent unfolds gently and lingers without sharpness. It is designed to settle into a space quietly, bringing warmth without heaviness.

Viewed from the side, each incense stick forms the seven-sided shape of Horii Shichimeien’s logo. The slightly uneven geometry is intentional. In tea culture, balance is often found within imperfection. This perspective is also seen in Okakura Tenshin’s understanding of tea.

Iori is a new extension of Horii Shichimeien, shaped by the idea of a small tea hermitage quietly open within modern life. It is guided by fueki-ryūkō, a Japanese philosophy meaning “the timeless and the new in harmony.” Through Iori, centuries of tea culture are carried forward into contemporary form. Rather than preserving tradition as something fixed, Iori allows it to remain alive, adapting its expression while keeping its essence intact.

Iori is not simply about tea itself. It explores how the spirit of tea can exist within daily life through thoughtfully created objects and experiences. Rooted in Horii Shichimeien’s long history, the line carries forward a refined aesthetic while continuing to evolve for the present.
