Iori by Horii Shichimeien - Incense - Okunoyama Tea Garden

This is a very special incense from Japan, made by Horii Shichimeien with the renowned incense house Shoyeido. It draws on the landscape of Okunoyama Tea Garden, the historic garden Horii Shichimeien has tended since the Muromachi period. The scent is built on sandalwood, agarwood, and clove, layered with earthy, moss-like notes into a deep green that calls up the tea fields, while a faint herbal thread runs through it like a breeze passing over the hills. It fills a room slowly and never turns sharp or heavy.

Seen from the side, each stick is shaped into the seven sides of Horii Shichimeien's logo. The slightly uneven geometry is intentional, drawn from a long-held idea in tea that balance holds a measure of imperfection.

Iori is Horii Shichimeien's newer line, built around the image of a small tea hermitage within modern life. Its name comes from fueki-ryūkō, a Japanese idea of keeping the timeless and the new in harmony, carrying centuries of Uji tea culture into a form made for the present.
