Hand-Painted Korean Porcelain Teapot - Willow

Hand-thrown in thin Korean porcelain, this small teapot is made for tea you reach for when you want to mark a moment as something more than ordinary. Its size keeps the serving intimate, for yourself or one other, and the pared-back form carries the maker's belief that beauty lies in simplicity, asking you to give full attention to each step and handle it with care.

These porcelain tea wares are made in Anseong, Korea by a husband and wife team of ceramic artists. One throws each piece by hand at the wheel while the other paints the intricate images of fruit and flowers, every detail minutely considered so that the utility of the object becomes a pleasure in itself.

The couple say the feeling of drinking tea shifts with the clay, the glaze, and the thickness of the ware, so each aesthetic choice plays a functional role too. They avoid decoration and density, pursuing fine lines and simplicity, and the porcelain is thrown to the very limits of the material.

They tell a story of a customer who was nervous the first time she used the tea ware, worried she might break it. Instead it made her slow down and focus, handling the piece with care, and that state of attention and calm is what they hope everyone can enjoy when using these objects.
