This tea cup is crafted by a 9th generation artisan based in Hasami, in Nagasaki prefecture. It is made from high-quality kaolin clay sourced from Amakusa in Kyushu and fired in one of the oldest kilns in Hasami, built in 1905. The cup features a Dobai glaze finish — a natural glaze made with iron from various tree ashes, which creates the distinctive dark specks across the surface.
This saucer is sized to pair perfectly with the matching porcelain tea cup, creating a balanced set for everyday tea. Made with pewter plating, it has a quiet weight and durability that invites regular use. Its thin profile allows multiple saucers to stack neatly without taking up much space. Over time, the surface develops a gentle patina, and the subtle marks of use gradually become part of its character.
