Horii Shichimeien Matcha Tasting

TGL invites you to a special Matcha Tasting experience with Horii Shichimeien, one of Uji, Kyoto’s most celebrated tea merchants with a legacy spanning over 600 years.

Guests will taste five distinct teas from Horii Shichimeien, with the spotlight on three matcha varieties ranging from everyday styles to competition-grade rare teas seldom found outside Japan. The tasting also includes two additional Japanese teas, offering a broader glimpse into the depth and diversity of Horii Shichimeien’s craft.

Each tasting is accompanied by chestnut yokan (Japanese traditional jelly) from Nagano.

Guests will also enjoy a 10% discount on all in-store tea purchases made on the day of the session (exclusions may apply).

-----------

#1 Welcome Tea: Genmaimatcha
Genmai Matcha blends toasted brown rice, sencha, and stone-milled Kyoto matcha. Nutty and fragrant with a rich umami depth, it offers a smooth, balanced cup.

#2 Matcha: Homare no Mukashi
Homare no Mukashi is crafted from hand-picked, award-winning tea leaves and expertly blended for a well-balanced, refined taste. It offers a rich umami depth, a smooth mouthfeel, and an elegant aroma. Suitable for both usucha (light brew) and koicha (strong brew).

#3 Matcha: Todou Mukashi
A blend of hand-picked tea leaves, with Samidori, a Kyoto variety, as the main component. Known for its strong umami and minimal bitterness, it is recommended for those who regularly enjoy matcha and seek a slightly higher quality experience.

#4 Matcha: Agata no Shiro
Made from hand-picked young leaves and carefully selected high-quality tencha sourced from tea-producing regions in Kyoto Prefecture. It features a balanced astringency, with smooth umami unfolding in the background.

#5 Closing Tea: Ujichashi Houjicha
A Kyoto-style roasted green tea, Ujichashi Houjicha is known for its rich aroma and smooth, well-rounded taste. The deep roasting process enhances its toasty, full-bodied fragrance while bringing out a warm, nutty sweetness with no bitterness. With lower caffeine compared to sencha, it’s a comforting and easy-drinking tea, perfect for unwinding at any time of day.
