For more than 40 years, the maker of these baskets worked as a boat builder out of the Pacific Northwest community of Coos Bay, Oregon. This family run business started in 1979 by handcrafting baskets out of myrtle, a rare tree which is indigenous to a small region of the Pacific Northwest, and copper. Many of the same tools and skills used in boat building are still being used to make these baskets. They are fastened with copper nails, air dried, sanded and dipped in clear mineral oil to leave a stunning natural finish.
