Eichenlaub Hand-Forged Cake Fork

This hand-forged cake fork comes from Eichenlaub, a German maker that has forged some of the finest cutlery in the world for over a century. Sized for cakes, tarts, and pastries, it works just as well as a dessert fork for fruit or anything sweet at the end of a meal, its three tines and warm wooden handle bringing a little occasion to the last course. Founded by a husband and wife in 1910, the firm kept production going through both World Wars without the slightest drop in quality, and their mark, the oak leaves with the letter M, has come to stand for first-class hand-forged cutlery.

Each piece is forged from a single length of stainless chrome-vanadium steel, a material chosen to resist abrasion, oxidation, and corrosion, then finished with a riveted wooden half handle in the manner that defines hand-forged work. The result is flatware built to last generations, the kind of piece passed down rather than replaced. Though the firm began with only forks and knives, it later expanded into dessert, fruit, and serving cutlery, this cake fork among them.
