This forms part of our collection of Italian tableware in stonewashed steel. The pattern and shaping is inspired by the Baroque period, with elegant curved engraving reminiscent of Italianate architecture of the 17th century. They are manufactured in Val Trompia, a valley in Northern Italy that has been a center of trade in high-quality metalwork since antiquity. The areas bountiful mineral veins and strong rivers lend it to the particular stonewashed technique that provides the brushed, matte finish on these pieces. The metal is effectively 'washed' inside a drum with different grades of stone to give the desired affect, which heightens its resistance to scratches and other signs of wear and tear.
