This unadorned, subtly blue-tinted porcelain teapot showcases the beauty of simplicity, a key element of the makers' design ethos. The delicacy of this teapot invites the user to direct all focus to the meditative process of tea-making.
This selection of porcelain teapots, cups are made in Ansung, Korea by a husband and wife team. They are ceramic artists who are dedicated to their work, with one at the wheel throwing each pot by hand, while the other paints the intricate images of fruit and flowers. Each detail is minutely considered and intended to make the utility of the object a pleasurable experience too.
The couple say that the feeling of drinking tea changes depending on the kind of clay and glaze that is used, as well as the thickness of the tea ware. As a result, each aesthetic choice in the creation of these pots plays a functional role too. They avoid decoration and density, instead creating delicate forms that push the limits of the material. The porcelain is incredibly thin as the couple pursue their goals of fine lines, simplicity and functionality.
They tell a story of a customer who was nervous when she first used the tea ware, worrying that she might break it. However, it made her slow down and focus on pouring the tea and handling the tea cup with care. The anticipation, satisfaction and the state of concentration that followed has informed their practice, and is the state of calm and consideration they hope everyone can enjoy when using these objects.
