This feather pin is known in their native German as “Gamsbart,” and is traditionally worn with a Bavarian “Trachten” hat. Originally worn as a kind of hunting trophy on sportsmen’s hats, they were made exclusively from the hair or feathers of animals that the wearer themselves had slain. These particular Gamsbart pins are made from a combination of deer hair and assorted bird feathers by Franz Blumtritt & Söhne. Founded in 1923, it remains a family company, now lead by Franz Blumtritt’s grandaughter, Regina Erb, who continues the long tradition of offering only the finest quality Bavarian accessories, accompanied by equally fine service.
