2025 March Tea Tasting (Matcha, Sencha and Gyokuro)

TGL invites you to a tasting of select Japanese green teas, ranging from matcha, sencha, gyokuro and sobacha, sourced from refined farms. Experience the unique characteristics and flavors of each, complemented by chestnut Yokan, a traditional Japanese jelly from Nagano.

Guests will enjoy a 10% discount on all in-store purchases of tea made on the day of the session.(Exclusions may apply)

Tea #1
Sencha - Saeakari
Location: Ryogochi, Shizuoka
Taste Profile: Sweet (Roasted Corn)
Saeakari, celebrated for its refreshing sweetness and unique aroma reminiscent of popcorn, offers a vibrant yellow-green hue that reflects its esteemed lineage from Asatsuyu and Saemidori ancestors. Whether enjoyed solo, paired with dessert, or as Ochazuke, this versatile tea promises a harmonious blend of flavors for any occasion.

Tea #2
Gyokuro - Yame Dentō Hon Gyokuro (Award Winning)
Location: Yame, Fukuoka
Taste Profile: Umami
In the mountainous regions of Yame, this Yame Dentō Hon Gyokuro is cultivated using traditional shading methods with rice straw mats for over 16 days, followed by hand-picking. These tea leaves are processed by artisans using the traditional "Hoiro" roasting method on Yame washi paper over charcoal. Awarded at the Fukuoka Prefectural Tea Competition in 2024. When you sip it, you'll enjoy the exquisite flavor of Yame Gyokuro, accompanied by a unique toasty aroma known as "hoiro-ka," with umami spreading from all sides.

Matcha - Suigyoku
Location: Yame, Fukuoka
Taste Profile: Sweet (Chocolate)
Suigyoku(翠玉) is a standout for its rich, sweet profile, reminiscent of chocolate, caramel, and roasted nuts. It offers very minimal bitterness, creating a balanced and deeply satisfying flavor.

Tea #4
Matcha - Shoujyu
Location: Uji, Kyoto
Taste Profile: Umami
This Shoujyu matcha was made from the youngest buds which were hand-picked. It offers deep and balanced umami with minimal off-flavors. It is suitable both for thick matcha(koi-cha) or thin matcha(usu-cha).

Shimane Sobacha
Location: Izumo, Shimane
Taste Profile: Creamy, Roasted
Sobacha from Izumo, Shimane, stands out for its superior buckwheat cultivation, yielding a tea known for its robust flavor and richness.
