Established in 1882, the manufacturer of this wooden bowl is the oldest brand of Yamanaka Lacquerware, a traditional craft of Ishikawa Prefecture in Japan. Yamanaka Lacquerware's uniqueness is characterized by a cutting method called Tatekidori, which means cutting wood horizontality. It gives the wood to have a beautiful contrast of cross-grain and straight-grain. This wooden bowl shaped like a butterfly is made of zelkova thinly carved using Japanese traditional techniques and the matte finished surface emphasizes the natural wood grain. With its very smooth texture and stain-resistance, the design combines beauty and practicality for everyday use.
