Wooden Plate

Centuries ago, the unsanctioned cutting of a camphor tree in China was punishable by death. That's because camphorwood, native to those countries as well as to Japan, was reserved for sacred ceremonial items. Later, it flourished in foreign trade, and seafarers sought it for their sea chests to ward off moths. This plate is made from camphorwood by a carpenter based in Kagoshima, Japan. He has been building custom furniture to everyday goods under the belief that making good and long lasting products will bring more people in to have an appreciation for well made goods. Regular dish soap is fine to use. Using dish cloth to dry the products is recommended.
