This cutlery series is inspired by a historic cutlery mold from the Meiji era, when Western culture and design were introduced to Japan after 200 years of national isolation. Manufactured by a trained jewelry maker, each piece is handcrafted with the utmost care. The artisan first molds the brass, and each item is then shaped, polished, dipped in silver, and sanded down for a smoky and worn effect, before receiving a final polish. Since the artisan performs each step himself, it is quite a lengthy process, and often takes two to four months to finish. For the best care, avoid using abrasive sponges, and instead use only soft sponges or cloths to clean and dry.
